Balkan Adventure Camp

Arrive in Bosnia & Herzegovina’s vibrant capital and settle in before meeting heading up to the Yellow Fortress, a perfect spot to watch the sunset over Sarajevo. Next, we will enjoy a welcome dinner to get to know each other and kick off our adventure.

We’ll start the day with a guided walking tour through Sarajevo’s historic Old Town, learning about the city's rich but tragic past, diverse culture, and local traditions. The afternoon is yours—sip traditional Bosnian coffee, try ćevapi, and visit museums like the Tunnel of Hope, the War Childhood Museum, or the Olympic Museum. Feeling adventurous? Take an optional hike to the abandoned Olympic bobsled track before we wrap up the day.

After a traditional Bosnian breakfast, we’ll drive into the heart of nature, arriving at our riverfront bungalows—our home for the next week. To kick off the Balkan Adventure Camp, we’ll tie-dye our own t-shirts (a summer camp essential!) before sitting down for a traditional Balkan dinner by the river. We’ll light a bonfire, play games, and stargaze before settling down for the night.

After breakfast, we’ll get a safety and equipment briefing from our guides before hopping into the van and heading up the river. Get ready for an adrenaline-filled day as we navigate the Tara River, home to some of the best whitewater rafting in Europe. Along the way, we’ll take breaks to swim under waterfalls and soak in the breathtaking canyon views. Back at camp, the afternoon is free to swim, relax, or play sports before gathering for another family-style dinner.

After breakfast, we hop into our jeeps and head above the Drina river canyon, one of the deepest in Europe! We’ll stop by Prijedjel where you can see WWII monuments and Dragoš Sedlo where you can take in a surreal panoramic view of Skakavac waterfall and Perućica, the only rainforest in Europe.

Next, we’ll hop out of the jeep to explore Sutjeska by foot on a 3-hour round trip hike through stunning alpine meadows to Trnovacko Lake where we’ll stop to swim and eat a packed lunch. We’ll return to base camp in the evening just in time for another family dinner and enjoy free time for the rest of the night.

Today, we’re conquering fears and scaling mountains! A Via Ferrata, or "iron path," is a protected climbing route equipped with cables, steel rungs, and steps, ensuring a safe and memorable climbing experience. 

After breakfast, we’ll receive a comprehensive safety and equipment briefing from our certified guides. Next, we’ll hop into the jeeps and head to Piva River Canyon - Europe’s deepest canyon (and second only to the United States’ Grand Canyon world-wide!) This Via Ferrata Piva route is beginner friendly and offers spectacular views of the Piva River and surrounding mountain scenery. After the tour, we head back to basecamp for lunch and free time before another family dinner and night of games and stargazing.

Note: Not a fan of heights? You can opt to relax at camp or join another rafting tour for an extra cost instead!

Start the morning off with another Balkan breakfast and coffee before hopping in jeeps and crossing into Montenegro to our starting point, the village Trsa, on the Piva mountain. Trsa is located in a perfect position near the canyon of Piva and Sušice, below the slopes of Durmitor.

From there, our guides will help us saddle up and ride our horses through the village Nedajno, the ridge of Miligora, all the way to the lookout point above the canyon Sušice. Green valleys, fragrant forests and views of the surrounding mountain peaks Bobotov kuk, Maglić, and Volujak are sure to be a highlight! Afterwards, we’ll enjoy lunch and free time in the afternoon back at camp before another family dinner. 

Today, we’re giving our legs a break and heading to Višegrad for a city sightseeing and cultural tour. With the help of an experienced guide, we'll see the famous Mehmed Paša Sokolović bridge and then walk through the old part of the city, where we will enjoy views of quaint alleyways dotted with local artisan shops and cafes that seem to have been captured in time. Enjoy lunch in the city to sample local specialties and eat renowned cakes and other sweet treats known at Višegrad. 

Our next stop is Andrićgrad, where we’ll spend time walking, sightseeing and photographing the Stone Town. The town is a monument to the Nobel Prize winner Ivo Andrić.

We’ll arrive back at camp in the mid afternoon where we’ll enjoy our last evening together. At night, we’ll light a bonfire to celebrate the close of an incredible trip!

We’ll enjoy our last breakfast together before making our way back to Sarajevo where we will say our see-you-later’s as we embark on our respective onward journeys.
